We apologize for the delay in announcing a winner. We were busy embracing the challenge of listening through all 50 of the entries without dropping an ounce of concentration! In fact, we found that there were so many excellent remixes that we were unable to bring it down to a single remix entry as the winner.

The good news is that Unique Records will be releasing 3 digital EP's in June 2012 showcasing the absolute best, the cream of the crop, the diamond geezer remixes across 3 different genres! Each EP will contain 3 tracks so we'll bring you the best House remixes but also the best in Dub Style and the best in Electro. They pumped out of the speakers at us, jumped off the page, they made us laugh, dance and gasp! There were so many fabulous takes on 110% and we don't want to hide them from you.

That's it! There can be no more entries for the 110% remix competition with Laura Vane and The Vipertones! It's been a really exciting few weeks watching the remixes coming in (no less than 40!), listening to them all and getting your messages! Laura and the boys would like to give a BIG THANK YOU to all of you who took part and had a pop at doing your own remix of 110%, taken from their album 'Sugar Fix' in 2011. We have seen entries coming in from house, dance and dubstep to jazz, soul and 80's synth pop, a brilliant range of vibes and completely eclectic mix of productions! After receiving such an amazing response from you all, the judging panel have a serious few hours ahead of them, making sure that no remix is left unheard and all are carefully considered for the winnings!

The results will be released in a couple of weeks, so keep your ear to the ground, your eyes open and your positive thoughts fixed on your remix! With a collective held breath and much anticipation all round, watch this space!

Ding Ding! It’s 2012!

Laura Vane and The Vipertones would like to wish you all a very Happy New Year! We hope you have some wonderful plans made for 2012 and of course, we’d like to tell you ours!

Our New Year got off to a great start with our incredible victory at 3fm, NL Radio on Giel Beelen’s Top 50 Covers Show! Last year, some of you may remember, we covered Martin Solvieg’s huge global hit ‘Hello’ live on Giel’s show and since then we received a lot of very positive feedback about it. At the end of last year Giel posted all the top 50 covers that various artists performed on his show over 2011 for public vote, and you lovely people made us NUMBER ONE! Thanks very much, it’s a happy happy start to 2012 and we’re pleased you like our take on the club classic!

With world domination still firmly planted at the top of our New Years resolutions list, we are starting to stir and wriggle about in new sounds and throwing around ideas for the next album. But first, we look forward to releasing a remix album in April of 2012, and you (if you did something about it!) might even have the chance to appear on this album with your mix of our ‘110%’!

The competition has been a lot of fun for everyone so far and there is still a few weeks left until we look at all the remixes and reveal who the winner is! We’ve had submissions from all over the world, all sorts of remixes in different genres and some of you have even posted them on Youtube! Very exciting! We would like to remind you that all remixes *must* be submitted by Wetransfer or Yousendit to info @ lauravaneandthevipertones.com before March 1st 2012.

Die Vipertones, eine 8-köpfige holländisch-englische Band sind auf einem guten Weg mit ihren bläserinfizierten Arrangements auf Soul- und Funkfundament. Sie versuchen sich nicht nur am Verver der good ol´times, sondern arbeiten hier auch hart an der Zukunft und übernehmen immer wieder szbtil Popelemente. Und Laura aus Brighton und ihre Backgroundsänger schmücken die Grooves königlich. *Unique

Seit die Amy Winehouses und Duffys dieser Welt die europäischen Charts mit Retro-Soul-Pop stürmen, transportieren immer mehr junge Acts den Sound aus den 1960ern so kompetent in die Gegenwart, als hätten sie in den letzten 15 Jahren ihre Wochenenden auf Soul-Allnightern verbracht. Auch die achtköpfige britisch-niederländische Truppe um die Sängerin Laura Vane serviert in den 13 Tracks ihres zweiten Albums reichlich fiebrige Grooves, schimmerndes Gebläse und griffige Hooklines. Vane hat ihre Lektionen bei Dusty Springfield, Gladys Knight und Etta James tief verinnerlicht. Mindestens drei der Stücke hätten echtes Hitpotenzial: der Opener „Capsize", das schwärmerische „All Over Again" und die Supremes-Hommage „Sugar Fix" .

Echt funky Wer von Mike Skinner so über den grünen Klee gelobt wird, muss sich eigentlich keine Sorgen ob seiner musikalischen Qualitäten machen. Eine äußerst gute Sänger- und Songwriterin sei sie, und sie weiß ihre Ideen zwar mit Nachdruck, aber auch mit einem Lächeln zu vermitteln. Woher Mike Skinner das wissen will? LAURA VANE war seit dem 2006er The Streets Album 'The Hardest Way To Make An Easy Living' praktisch Haus- und Hof-Sängerin der Briten. Mit Rapmusik und Elektrospielereien hat die Engländerin aber sonst nicht viel am Hut. Dann schon eher mit Funk und Soul im Sinne der Swinging Sixties. Steht ihr auch sowieso viel besser zu Gesicht.
Mit ihrem Debütalbum konntenLAURA VANE & THE VIPERTONES (übrigens eine Band, bestehend aus acht Musiker aus den Niederlanden und dem UK) schon Kritiker, DJs und Fans gleichermaßen überzeugen. Jetzt folgt mit 'Sugar Fix' der zweite Streich, der ebenfalls mit aufrichtigen Soul-Funk-Popnummern zwischen Etta James, Dusty Springfield und Duffy zu überzeugen weiß. Doch im Gegensatz zu den ganzen Amy Winehouses dieser Welt ist LAURA VANE mit viel mehr Pfeffer im Hintern ausgestattet. Im Endeffekt vielleicht sogar zu viel, um wirklich im Mainstream anzukommen. Denn wo die Künstler der Neo-Soul-Generationen eher durch glattgebügelte Pop-Klänge die Radiostationen und Charts stürmten, setzt das Britisch/Niederländische Kollektiv auf den roughen Originalsound, auf dessen Kosten dann vielleicht auch mal eine eingängige Hookline zu Gunsten der Authentizität geopfert wird.
Einen Abbruch tut das 'Sugar Fix' aber nicht. Im Gegenteil: Liebhaber von "echter" Funk- und Soulmusik werdenLAURA VANE & THE VIPERTONES einer Duffy auf jeden Fall vorziehen. Denn hier steht nicht die strahlende Plastikwelt im Vordergrund, sondern das wahre Leben. Ehrlichkeit wird hier eben noch groß geschrieben. Kann wohl doch kein Zufall sein, dass auch Rapmusik seine Wurzeln im Funk und Soul hat.

Laura Vane is een Britse zangeres die het best kan gecatalogeerd worden als soulzangeres met een funk- en jazzkantje aan. Zij vormt samen met de achtkoppige band The Vipertones (trompet, altsax, tenor- en baritonsax, toetsen, gitaar, gitaar, basgitaar en drums) Laura Vane & The Vipertones, een Brits-Nederlandse soulformatie die zeer aanstekelijke melodieuze en swingende (groovende) soul maakt. ‘Sugar Fix' is de tweede cd die ze uitbrengen, en laat eens te meer de aanstekelijke grooves van de band horen, evenals de bezielde vocals met erg soulfulle vibrato van Miss Vane. Een beetje retro misschien, zeker modieus, maar bovenal van begin tot einde begeesterend en heel erg ... plezant! De vergelijking met Lady Linn dringt zich op; ook een steengoede swingende zangeres met een jazzbackground, en een sterke band met blazers. Terwijl La Vane resoluut voor de soul gaat, ligt het accent bij La Linn misschien wel meer bij fifties-swing, -rockabilly, en -jumpjazz, maar de bezieling is dezelfde! Een ware verademing in tijden van niet altijd even overtuigende indierock en andere, niet van -te- sterk zelfbewustzijn gespeende zgn. alternatieve popuitingen!

De hoes van het album Sugar Fix, met zangeres Laura Vane als pin-upmeisje, schept ietwat andere verwachtingen dan je daadwerkelijk terughoort op de plaat. Dat maakt van Sugar Fix geen koude douche, want Vane blijkt een uitstekende soulzangeres.
Maar dat wisten we eigenlijk al een beetje. Althans, Mike Skinner (The Streets) was ervan op de hoogte en bood haar aan om twee nummers op zijn album Computers And Blues in te zingen, te weten Trying To Kill M.E. en OMG. Een wederdienst zat er niet in, maar Laura Vane heeft daarentegen een prima eigen band.
The Vipertones is een half Brits-half Nederlands gezelschap. Twee van de leden komen namelijk uit Dordrecht. Daar hoor je verder niks van. Het album staat immers bol van Amerikaans klinkende soulpop, doorspekt met blazers, orgeltjes en achtergrondkoortjes.
Sugar Fix vormt een mooi geheel en dat is tevens de zwakte ervan. Individueel zijn het allemaal zeer aangename liedjes, maar de variatie zit ‘m vooral in de details en zal de onoplettende luisteraar ontgaan. Wanneer je de liedjes isoleert valt de kwaliteit ervan pas echt op.
Veilig: Als je één nummer op dit album goed vindt, dan ga je de rest van het album ook erg waarderen. Het album is wat dat betreft een veilige aankoop. Dit staat in direct verband met de smetteloze doch veilige productie van Sugar Fix. Iets meer risico's hadden het debuutalbum van Laura Vane & The Vipertones een stuk spannender gemaakt. En dan zou de hoesfoto van Vane ook beter corresponderen met de muzikale inhoud. Toch, deze Sugar Fix zal soulliefhebbers meteen naar het hoofd stijgen.

The British are coming- Andy DeVilbiss

Fronted by one helluva singer in British bombshell Laura Vane, the Vipertones are a slick collective of English and Dutch musicians drawn together from various projects (Diesler, AIFF, the Soul Snatchers, and the Jazzinvaders among others), and they're putting a fresh spin on old school soul. They burst onto the European scene in 2009 with their self-titled debut, which featured blistering tracks like "Steam" and "Roof Off" that forced listeners and club-goers to get down on the get down. "Roof Off" was so well-received it got its own entire remix EP. They don't show any signs of slowing down with their forthcoming album "Sugar Fix." It's sticky-sweet with tight funky beats and some absolutely brilliant horn arrangements. Seriously, some of those horn licks are ridiculous sick. It's all designed perfectly to showcase Laura Vane's sultry vocals, which are just dandy like candy and put a craving in my ears - the audio equivalent of my sweet-tooth's desire for a Milky Way bar. Highly recommended if you're a fan of acts like Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings. The joint's not available outside of Holland yet, but you can stream the whole thing here: luisterpaal2.radio6.nl/page/player/567 (I also highly recommend the Vipertones' cover of "Hello" by Martin Solveig. The techno-pop original is currently featured in a Trident gum commercial. Their cover is super funky, making it about a kajillion times better, and it's taken from a live performance on Dutch radio.
